What’s the big deal about Meth?

The big deal about Meth (Crystal Methampehtamine, Tina, Crystal, etc.) is…EVERYTHING!  Meth is brutal to your brain and body.  Meth is highly addictive.  The various chemicals and substances used to make Meth are toxic and explosive—even if you don’t use the drug, being around these ingredients can have dangerous, long-term effects on your health.  Because Meth users need to keep upping their dosage just to get the same high, the Meth habit is an expensive one, and the search for money to pay for that habit contributes to all kinds of social problems including theft and violent crime.

But, the news isn’t all bad.  In Ontario, we are in a unique position to learn from other provinces and the U.S. in dealing with the Meth problem.  We can be pro-active (preventing problems) rather than re-active (reacting to problems).  The most effective tool in preventing Meth problems on a wide scale is anything that helps to limit access to the chemicals ingredients.  Many retailers are beginning to look at a variety of ways of doing just that.
