Body Weight—A New Way of Thinking

Ideal body weight should not be determined by any chart, formula or scale; Don’t let a number control how you feel about yourself!
How do your clothes fit, how much energy do you have, how fit do you feel?
- Enjoy being unique. Like your fingerprint, your body is one of a kind – the result of genetics, lifestyle and experiences. Stop comparing yourself to others and focus on the best possible you. Be proud of your strengths and beauties, and be objective about your weaknesses and limitations. Adopt a healthy attitude for life.
- Be realistic about your body. Recognize that your body size depends, to some extent, on your genes. It is part of your family heritage! Take a close look at your extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins) to see what body shapes and sizes are realistic for you.
- Challenge the current values of our culture. Accept all body sizes as good. Instead of asking "How can I get thin?" ask yourself "What can I do to be healthier and happier?" Don't be fooled by the media myth that only thin people can be happy, successful and fulfilled.
- Get active. To stay healthy, you should aim for at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity daily (this means you’re breathing harder and sweating a bit). Start slowly and go at your own pace. Every bit of physical activity matters, even 10 minutes at a time is beneficial and more is better.
- Try a variety of different activities until you find the ones that you enjoy and have fun! Build activity into your everyday routine by walking and biking as much as you can to get to work, school, shopping or visiting friends. The benefits of you include:
- better posture and balance
- better self-esteem
- stronger muscles and bones
- feeling more energetic
- feeling more relaxed & experiencing less stress.
