How can I make sure that I am getting all the nutrients I need if I am a vegetarian?
Vegetarians can eat healthy with some planning. Check out these meal planning tips for teens
Some vegetarians eat eggs and milk products or milk alternatives; others do not and base their diets entirely on plant foods (known as a vegan diet). Both eating patterns can be healthy at any age. The more foods you cut out of your diet, the more effort you need to make to get all the nutrients your body needs. All vegetarians need to make sure daily meals and snacks include enough protein, iron, zinc, calcium and vitamin D, vitamin B12 and omega-3 fatty acids.
There's lots of help out there. Refer to the Dietitians of Canada website for more information about vegetarian diets.
